The Bellaire Local School District Preschool program is based on the belief that children should be given a variety of learning opportunities to enhance the child’s individual needs. We believe that all children, regardless of the nature or severity of the disability, should be exposed to an environment that encourages them to understand that they belong to a group, as well as allowing for their individual growth and development of a positive self-image.
The children in our program will explore their environment in all imaginable ways. We believe that children learn best through play, through involvement in activities which help them to acquire knowledge and to apply this knowledge meaningfully in constructive and creative ways. For real learning to occur, preschoolers must be active players who are encouraged to make choices, ask questions, experiment, and develop solutions. Through this process, children will become responsible for their own actions and feelings. The children come to learn that they are capable individuals who can act on their knowledge of the physical and social worlds.
Each child is served by a team of early educators and specialists along with the child’s parents. Through the integration of children whose needs may require individualized learning plans, staff, families, and children become aware that educational and physical differences are not barriers of diverse goals, but rather a wealth of wonderful learning experiences for everyone involved.
We believe that parents have both the right and responsibility to become involved and share in decisions about their child’s care and education. Parents are considered a valuable part of the educational team, and we encourage you to assist us in providing the best possible education for your child.
