A class of second grade students at Bellaire Elementary are now published writers! Reading is one of the most important skills we learn in school, but a special group of students are taking a page out of their own book. Mrs. Hendershot's second grade class at Bellaire Elementary can now call themselves full-fledged authors.
The published work is written and illustrated by the entire class. "It's just such a good opportunity for them to put all these isolated skills that we study into real life," said Mrs. Hendershot.
The title of their book is "Dream Big." Each student wrote about their wants and dreams for their future. "If they chose to be an author that would be great, but every career chosen was a career that would benefit our community and so I'm really proud of that," said Mrs. Hendershot.
Hendershot helped the students put the book together through a kid-friendly publishing company called Student Treasures. Student Treasures specifically works with schools and classrooms and even helps individual students to produce books. “I did this the first time I taught second grade and my students loved it, I knew I wanted to do it again”.
"I'm incredibly proud of these kids and what they want to be when they grow up and the things they believe in," said Hendershot.
The book can be purchased by visiting the Student Treasures website.
