Superintendent's Message

October 13, 2015

Dear BIG REDS Nation,

It is my hope this letter finds you well.  The 2015-16 academic year is rapidly progressing as we progress into autumn; soon frost will be on the pumpkins!

The start of every new endeavor brings anticipation and excitement.  So it is with me in beginning my tenure as superintendent of the Bellaire Local School District.  I feel a sense of responsibility to the community, staff and most of all the students to lead this district in a team enterprise in an effort to take the district to the next level.  Spirit- Pride-Tradition: is our moto!  In the year I have been in the district, I have seen it every day.  It is one of greatest our strengths; I see it in our teaching staff; I see it in our alumni; I see it in our co-curricular/extra-curricular activities; and most of all I see it in our students.

As you all are aware this academic year will be one of transition for the district. Mr. Scott has elected to retire as superintendent.  Mrs. Kathryn Anderson has been named Bellaire High Principal.  Additionally many new faces will be among the district’s teaching staff.  I encourage parents to take advantage of conference events and meet all the new faces that interact with your children.

I would like to remind you that Election Day is November 3rd.  Even though the Bellaire Board of Education has made over $5.2 million in cuts since 2010, we remain in fiscal emergency status with the state of Ohio.  Therefore it is imperative voters approve the RENEWAL on the district’s 3 mill PERMANENT IMPROVEMENT LEVY.  It will not raise taxes and will go to support items such as capital improvements, buses, textbooks, general property maintenance.

We have the ability to do great things for the students of Bellaire but that only possible if we work together!  School Districts only reflect the communities which they serve—Let’s model our ideals of Sprit-Pride-Tradition….by working TOGETHER

Thank you for all your efforts and hard work for the children and families of the Bellaire Local Schools District.   TOGETHER—Let’s make it a great year!

Yours in Education,

Darren Jenkins
